Sixteen teams from the townships of Grey played off at the Markdale Curling Club on Saturday, February 27. Two trophies with keepers were awarded to the two -draw event by the Co-operators and the United Cooperatives of Ontario, both of Owen Sound. Wes Sparling, provincial director of OFA for the Grey North region, and Carman Hamill, long-time member of the Federation organized the bonspiel and presented the donated prizes. George Black, president of Grey Federation of Agriculture was there to present the UCO trophy to the team of Barry Tolton, Doug Carbert, Brian Betts and Jim Johnston. Second place in this draw was taken by Wilf Sparling, Murray Hewitson, Tom Johnston and Russ Johnston, playing for Euphrasia. In third place was the team from Holland township, Don Gildner, Doug Legate, Nick Wit, and Carman Hamill. Other Well done OFA Congratulations to the Grey County Federation of Agriculture on a great membership drive. A special thank you to all the dedicated and hard working volunteers who gave of their time. As of March 13, we had signed up over 100 new members, and still counting! Welcome new members. You are now part of a farm organization working for all farmers. We look forward to your involvement and participation; to hearing your ideas and concerns. In the earlier draw, Wes Sparling with Wes Irwin, Wayne McCausland, and Gertie Blake, was awarded the Co- operator's trophy. Gertie Blake is the field -person for Grey and Bruce Federations of Agriculture and also knows her curling. Second prize went to Brian Mullin, Brian Hiltz, Peter Graham and Brian Christie. In third place was Bill Johnston, with Harold Scott, George 48th Annual Public S Congratulations to the GCFA 48th Annual Public Speaking Competition winners. The Senior winner was Joy Leith from Egremont Central School. Second place Senior winner was Andrea Braithwaite, Hillcrest Public School, Owen Sound. The Junior winner was McCall and Frank Lipsett of Sydenham. Other teams in this draw were entered by Bill Medley, Albert McLean, Jim Van Veen, Harold Johnston and Brian Tullock. The Grey County Federation of Agriculture is proud to host the long- running annual bonspiel. Teams come from the townships, though not every township comes up with four curlers. Prizes are donated by machinery dealers, feed mills, hardwares and banks. The Grey Federation also provides prizes.0 peaking Competition Travis Rivest from St. Peter and St. Paul, Durham. Second place Junior winner was Andrew Stevens, Keppel -Sarawak School. A special thank you to the co-ordinator, committee members, the judges and all the participants.0 Rural Presents A Series of Connections II Public Meetings TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR DESTINY April 1 "The Planning Process and taking control of your Opportunities" MEG CLAXTON is gifted in communications, public relations and marketing strategies. She is president of Signature Public Relations and Advertising, a farmer, elk producer, and former Director of Communications for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Using her experience with the Elk Producers' Co-operative as an example, Meg will illustrate how farmers can respond to an identified opportunity with a plan of action and seize control over their future. April 13 "Entrepreneurs in today's Agriculture" A panel of four local farm operators and businessmen will share their personal positive experiences about: • Risk Management • the co-operative approach applied to farming today • the Community approach to rural diversification and development • non-traditional approaches to controlling the assets required to make your farming operation work Location: Knights of Columbus Hall, Hanover, ON (1 km west of Hanover on Hwy. #4) Meeting time: 8:00 p.m. Each meeting will be followed by a public Question and Answer period and refreshments.
