Keith Siemon
Farm Systems
Ltd., Walton
Main lines: Patz, Houle, Wic,
Lucknow
Business trends: Siemon
foresees increased sales of new
equipment because of the tax credit.
"There will be a glut of used
machinery on the market, traded in
on new equipment." There will be
fewer, but larger farmers.
His company hasn't been affected
by the amalgamations of farm
equipment suppliers. He predicts,
however, the trend will continue and
says a farm dealer has to be in a
position to take on expanded lines if
it happens.
Lloyd Watson
Watson Farm
Enterprises,
Mount Forest
Main lines: Ford New Holland
Business trends: Watson
foresees customers buying good used
or new equipment. Round balers will
continue to sell as well as other hay
tools. Any trend that will save on
labour will be supported by farmers.
He predicts amalgamations will
continue but "there will always be
companies to buy from but customers
may have to go further to buy".
Watson went further himself in 1988,
moving 45 miles to the current
location. "I started again with new
customers and, looking back, it was a
good move."
How have conditions of the
past year affected your
inventory?
"Inventory of new equipment at the
end of December was next to
nothing," Watson says.
Lawn and garden lines carried:
Ford New Holland, Bolens, Yard Pro,
Troy Bilt
What's new in lawn and garden
equipment?
New styling. The pricing is very
competitive between the manufactur-
ers because there are so many in the
market. There are interest rates and
financing plans for purchases.0
