Lynn Lowry
Lynn Lowry Farm
Systems Ltd.
Amberley
Main lines: J -Star, Houle, Clay,
Westeel grain bins, cattle feeding
equipment, manure handling equip-
ment, feed processing equipment,
cattle and hog stabling and
ventilation.
Business trends: Most of the
sales are coming from replacing
existing, worn-out equipment, Lowry
says. There is very little expansion.
He foresees very tight deals and that
some dealers won't survive. "Farmers
seem to be travelling further for
prices, yet ask the local dealer to
come fix the machines."
The wave of amalgamations hasn't
affected his business because 95 per
cent of the companies he has dealt
with over the last 25 years are main
lines and are solid companies. He
predicts there will continue to be
amalgamations, however. Whether
this affects individual farmers or not
will depend on whether it's his brand
that disappears, and whether
replacement parts are available or
not. The amalgamations will also
affect competitive pricing, he says.
How have conditions In the
past year affected inventory?
Lowry says there has been no
effect on inventory yet but feels the
effects of last year's crop disaster
won't be felt until after spring
planting bills come in.
Jack Nickel
Midwestern Farm
Equipment
Listowel
Main lines: Massey -Ferguson,
Kubota, Gehl, White New Idea,
Kongskilde, Zetor, Great Plains
Business trends: Nickel sees
some positive signs in sales, partly
because of the 10 per cent tax credit.
He says there has been little effect on
his company from the amalgamations
within the machinery business and
expects little effect in the future,
although he expects the
amalgamations will continue.
