18 THE RURAL VOICE
Grain Markets
at elevators and mills, much higher
than normal for this time of year.
Mixed grain is very scarce so far, but
it seems that there may be sufficient
lighter feed grade oats to take up the
slack. Milling quality oats are
trading for $110 to $120/mt in
Ontario and should remain fairly
strong depending on how the harvest
proceeds on the prairies.
The fundamentals of supply and
demand will likely force futures
prices lower in the fall for corn and
soybeans. Basis levels for new crop
corn and soybeans will depend on
how well the crops develop over the
next month. Your own crop
prospects may allow you to forward
sell some grain, if necessary, but if
your crops are below average, you
should stand pat and make use of
your crop insurance.0
