Stable Funding wind-
fall for government?
With Stable Funding almost law, I
do hope that farmers will take some
time to at least think of what will hap-
pen to we "The Farmers of Ontario".
With the stroke of a pen —
farrners in Ontario have lost their
ability to make farm policy at our
grassroots.
For those of us who are familiar
with Municipal Politics — I question
what the reaction would be from the
600 municipalities belonging to the
Association of Municipalities of
Ontario (an organization which bats
for all municipalities when the
Provincial government tries to force a
new scheme which is not compatible
with the needs of municipalities) if
they got the same treatment. I am
certain that the grassroots of this
organization wouldn't allow a scheme
as is happening in our farming
community.
We are told that the registration
fees will be $150 ($25 kept by the
province at the beginning for
administration).
With the shrinking farm
community how long will this remain
at this level? We all know how much
it costs to run those offices. Also the
proposed legislation is open-ended.
All we have to do is note how this
provincial government deregulated
the O.C.A. check -off. Now there is
no limit on this compulsory check-
off. When O.C.P.. needs more money
they can simply raise our check -off.
At the same time we have almost lost
all our processing beef industry.
Money well spent? How will Stable
Funding be any different?
What other group of Canadian
citizens has been forced to pay to an
organization before it is allowed to
