The Rural Voice, 1992-05, Page 60HURON County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER Box 429, Clinton, Ontario NOM 1L0 519-482-9642 • The Rural Voice is provided to all farmers in Huron County by the HCFA. REPORT OF THE HURON COMMITTEE FOR ORGANIZING THE FEBRUARY 21, 1992 OTTAWA RALLY On February 20 and 21, 1992 over 300 Huron County farmers and supporters left their work to go to Ottawa. These 300 plus farmers and supporters boarded buses, cars, vans, etc. to travel to Ottawa, to show with a united voice their belief in a strong Canadian Agriculture and Food production system. A number of individuals provided their own transportation and over 30 people from Huron County travelled to Ottawa completely separate from any funding from this Committee. The Committee's initial planning meeting provided for a bus fare of $40 per passenger with five buses being booked. The response from Huron County residents was so great that a sixth bus was ordered and subsequently filled as 276 people were registered to travel to Ottawa on the six buses. The five national supply -managed boards and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture who were responsible for organizing the rally in Ottawa committed considerable funds towards the costs incurred for advertising and promotion, parking, snow removal, toilet rental, permits, etc. The cost per person would have been somewhat more than the $40, had the trip not been supported by generous groups in Huron and area who donated. After paying all expenses and reviewing our accounts the Committee Chuck Bokor speaks to Federation members from Huron and Perth attending the directors seminar at St. Columban Hall, Feb. 13. Some people worked hard at the membership drive kick-off party held March 2 in St. Columban. First Vice-president Bill Wallace (standing) works with (left to right) Linda Plaetzer, Larry Plaetzer, Carol Finch and Jeanne Kirkby. 56 THE RURAL VOICE is left with $3,808.94. The Committee met again on April 10 and have decided to hold this sum of just over $3,800, which is being held by the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, in a term deposit. On June 10, 1992 the GATT situation will be reassessed to determine if there might be a need of a second trip, to lobby on behalf of Canadian Agriculture, by farmers and supporters from Huron county. After June 10, 1992 if further need is not seen on the horizon for a return trip to Ottawa to lobby for Canadian Agriculture, then the money will be used to continue the Lobby effort at the National Level for the cause of defending Canadian Agriculture. Anyone registered on the bus trip rally who does not wish to contribute their share to the national effort will be given a chance to come into the Huron County Federation Office in Vanastra to pick up their netted designated share of the surplus funds. The time and the date for this will be announced at a later date in this same column. Again, our thanks are extended to the agricultural businesses and the farmers and friends of Huron County for showing their generous support.0 Huron County Federation of Agriculture: Brenda McIntosh, Jeanne Kirkby.
