Displaced
City crow, perched on sign,
"Texaco, Self Serve",
Scans rancid garbage tidbits
Strewn cafeteria style,
Caws raucously at gasboys filling tanks.
Nearby, lights flash amber, red.
Displaced bird,
Your territory covers
Three garages, coffee shop,
Ten houses, one apartment block,
And one small square
Of playground grass.
From office desk, I watch you, Crow.
You have forgotten, if you knew,
Open pastures, forests tall.
But I, not long removed from farm,
Hear flocks of crows
On windswept fields,
Smell new mown clover
On the air.
