Wool prices in Canada for the 1990 clip averaged 38.5 cents per pound, compared with the previous five-year average of 63 cents per pound. As a result, a payment of 32 cents per pound will be made to producers on a marketed volume of 2.32 million pounds. Under a government/industry part- nership arrangement, federal stabiliza- tion payments will be distributed through the Canadian Sheep Federation. Producers should forward their ap- plications, along with bills of sale, be- fore April 1, 1992, to: Canadian Sheep Federation, 30 Tripp Cres., Nepean, Ontario K2J 106. Producers who marketed their clip through Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Limited will be sent their re- spective 1990 wool stabilization pay- ment automatically on data forwarded to the Canadian Sheep Federation.° OFA CONVENTION TARGETS FUTURE Over 400 Ontario farmers were expected to attend the 1991 Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) con- vention on November 25, 26, and 27 in Mississauga. The theme for this year's convention is "Farming ... the consuming issue" and highlights include a panel discus- sion involving Hon. Eugene Whelan, with Joan Huzar and Ruth Jackson of the Consumers Association, on the issue of food at the expense of farmers. Guest speakers to the convention include the Hon. Jean Chretien, federal leader of the official opposition and Hon. Elmer Buchanan provincial minis- ter of agriculture. In addition, an On- tario cabinet ministers' panel will see provincial ministers of energy, environ- ment, L tbour, natural resources, agricul- ture, and revenue, led by Deputy Pre- mier and Treasurer Floyd Laughren, take part in an open exchange with the delegates on the Monday night.°
