HIGHLIGHTS OF ANNUAL MEETING The Huron County Federation of Agriculture held their annual meeting in the Seaforth Community Centre on Fri- day, October 11, 1991, with approxi- mately 150 in attendance. The president for the upcoming year of 1991 - 1992 is Brenda McIntosh, R.R. 4, Seaforth; first vice president is Bill Wallace, R.R. 4, Seaforth; second vice president is Nathan Peel, R.R. 1, Bluevale. Six directors -at -large were elected as follows: Ken Scott, McKillop; Fred Hem, Usborne; Merton Brock, Us - borne; Gerald Johns, Usborne; Jody Durand, Hay; and Tom Hayter, Stephen. Our annual Huron County Award was presented to the former minister of agriculture, Jack Riddell, by Bob Down, a director of Huron County Federation of Agriculture. Jack replied appropri- ately to the honour and thanked the federation for honouring him with this presentation. Guest speaker for the evening was John Core, chairman of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. John was intro- duced by first vice president Bill Wal- lace of Tuckersmith Township, and thanked by Jeanne Kirkby of McKillop Township, as well as being presented with an OFA jacket and hat. The following resolution was pre- sented by Bob Down, seconded by Walter Elliott, to be presented at the OFA October 16/91 Board of Directors meeting: "WHEREAS, most of Ontario's farmers are in the midst of the worst economic circumstances since the so- called `dirty -30s'; and "WHEREAS, Ontario farm families rely on the Ministry of Agriculture and Former Agriculture Minister Jack Riddell was honoured by the HCFA at the annual meeting when he was given the award for outstanding contributions to agriculture. President Brenda McIntosh, and director Bob Down did the honours. For Your Information: OFA ANNUAL CONVENTION NOVEMBER 25 - 26 - 27 Delta Meadowvale Hotel Mississauga 16 reps from Huron will be representing Huron farmers! 48 THE RURAL VOICE Food to develop public policy that is pertinent to the needs of the farming sector of the economy; and "WHEREAS, the OMAF `Outlook' 1991 conference fails to address the central issues, challenges, and crisis confronting Ontario's farm families at this time; "BE IT RESOLVED; that the OFA call upon all farm leaders and agri-busi- ness representatives to `boycott' the OMAF `Outlook' 1991 conference un- less substantial amendments are made to the published program that will better reflect the economic realities confront- ing Ontario's farmers today. Ontario farm organizations cannot in good con- science concur with the agricultural priorities implied in the present pro- gram designed for `Outlook' 1991." ... motion Carried ... to be presented at OFA meeting October 16/91.
