MINIMUM WAGE
TO INCREASE
Ontario's general minimum wage
will be increased to $6 per hour as of
November 1, 1991, Ontario's Labour
Minister Bob McKenzie announced.
The announcement is part of the govern-
ment's anti -poverty strategy. The an-
nouncement is a move towards a target
level for the minimum wage to reach 60
per cent of the average industrial wage
by the year 1995.
The time and rate of future minimum
wage increases will be determined
based on such factors as prevailing eco-
nomic conditions and other government
initiatives benefitting lower paid work-
ers.0
