The Rural Voice, 1991-08, Page 45RAINY R1VER Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER Box 416, Emo, Ontario POW 1 E0 807-482-2051 • The Rural Voice is provided to Rainy River Federation members by the RRFA. Nine days straight of rain have left many fields with standing water while the hay crop is yellowing. Then it turned really hot and where did the water go? I walked through the pasture last evening and you can see cracks in the ground. The second crop of hay is ready to cut if the sun keeps shining and it stays dry for a few days. We should be filling silo by the end of the week or the begin- ning of next, and baling the rest. The heat of the last two days has the grand - babies running through the soaker hose with cries of glee. The cold water does wonders for the temperament, the gar- den is thriving on it too. This month's deadline for the col- umn is before the events that are planned for the district so I don't have much to report. The minister of agriculture and food, Elmer Buchanan, will be visiting July 23-24. I hope to find out more about it and where he is going and will try to be there if possible. The 4 -Hers are going on a bus trip to Winnipeg on August 6-7 and I hope to talk to someone connected and find out about their trip. I hope they have a good time and will learn as well. The consumer education committee is working on their booth for the fall fair and the ag in the classroom committee has their plans well underway. Both committees are looking fora few volun- teers to help staff the booths, so if you think you could give a little time, please call Lisa Teeple, Christine Carpenter, Shirley Moms, or Kim Hunsperger, and I'm sure they will be most appreciative. Nellie Romyn and her helpers sound as though they will have an interesting booth in the Farm Progress Building. Kim and I will be working in the milk producers booth on the grounds and could use some help too. A job that has enough hands seems to get done more smoothly and everyone is happier. Contact us if you can help any of us even for a little while.
