The Rural Voice, 1991-07, Page 45WHAT'S NEW NEW MIXER FOR SMALL HERDS The Gehl Company has introduced a new stationary mixer feeder for total mixed rations (TMR). The model ST7150, with a mixing capacity of 150 cubic feet, is ideal for smaller -scale dairy producers who want to take advan- tage of a TMR feeding system to in- crease production. The new ST7150 offers many of the same advanced features as other Gehl mixer feeders, including: a unique four - auger system that blends feed ingredi- ents in a double figure-eight pattern for fast, complete mixing; patented star couplers that absorb shock loads on the bottom augers for increased durability; energy-efficient planetary gears to re- duce horsepower needs; a choice of electronic scales; and heavy duty 3/8 - inch thick steel auger trough bottoms. Gehl offers six models of mixer feeders in trailer -type, truck -mounted, and stationary versions. Gehl mixer feeders, with mixing capacities from 150 to 500 cubic feet, are designed to handle a wide variety of feed ingredi- ents. Studies of TMR systems indicate that dairy farmers could expect an aver- age five per cent increase in milk pro- duction, depending on present produc- tion levels. Gains of up to 20 per cent have been reported. Research also shows that cows will begin to respond to a TMR program within 24 hours in many cases. Implementing a TMR program often requires a mixer feeder which thor- oughly mixes all feed ingredients to make a complete ration. The return on investment for a mixer feeder is often less than one year, and some farmers have reported a six-month payback. Rigid shank mounting provides cul- tivating action to break up tough soils between rows. Each heavy-duty 1 1/4 x 2 x 26 -inch shank is mounted securely to the carrier bar with a rectangular bracket. Also available is an optional 26 -inch, spring -cushion shank. Four bolts keep the shank in precise align- ment. Shanks on narrow models use 16 - inch sweeps, while wide -row models use 22 -inch sweeps. This results in exceptional clearance for working in heavy residue, and the cultivator, available in four to 12 -row widths, has a 7 x 7 -inch tubular main frame that withstands the high draft loads common in reduced tillage opera- tions. Wide, heavy-duty parallel link- ages maintain pinpoint accuracy, and the upper linkage features regreasable pivots, while the lower links have four sealed bearings for long life at wear points. Depth settings are easily adjusted for any field condition from 0 to 3 inches deep in 1 -inch increments. The gauge wheel and coulter on each gang work independently for proper depth control and easy penetration.0 Don't miss it!
