RALSTON PURINA:
NEW PLANT
On September 21, 1990, Ralston
Purina Canada officially inaugurated a
mill plant in Strathmore, Alberta. Stan
Schumacher, member of the Alberta
Legislative Assembly, and Dean Mef-
ford, president of Ralston Purina Inter-
national, were present at the inaugura-
tion ceremony.
Ralston Purina Canada invested a
total of $3.9 million retooling the plant
for milling, steam rolling, mixing, and
pelleting bulk and bagged feeds. It is
equipped with a fully computerized
feeder line, automated bagging, and a
state of the art system for processing
liquid feeds and molasses blocks. The
plant also has a 20,000 square foot ca-
pacity warehouse and a modem lab with
N.I.R.A. equipment for ingredient and
product testing.
The plant is the first foothold of
Ralston Purina in the Canadian west.
Plans for further development are al-
ready underway. Ralston Purina Can-
ada is interested in gaining their share of
this promising market, mainly in the
cattle, dairy, hog, and horse sectors.
"We firmly believe that Ralston
Purina products, programs, and services
can play an important role in improving
the profitability of Western Canadian
livestock producers business," says
William F. Kuckuck, managing director
of Ralston Purina Canada.
Ralston Purina operates eight plants
in Canada, but the Alberta plant is the
first one in the western region. The other
seven plants are located in Ontario and
Quebec.0
