ADVICE
growing diet prior to weaning.
11. Lambs in the growing phase (50
to 75 pounds live weight) should have a
diet that promotes lean growth and mini-
mizes fat production. Diets should
contain 15 per cent crude protein with
TDN values ranging from 70 to 80 per
cent. To maintain TDN values of 70 to
80 per cent, hay will need to be added to
the feed or supplemented on the side.
Other sources of fibre include alfalfa
meal, cottonseed hulls, soybean hulls,
and peanut hulls.
12. From 75 pounds live weight and
up, lambs should go through a finishing
phase with a diet that consists of 13 per
cent crude protein and 80 to 90 per cent
TDN. Feed efficiency values should not
exceed 6 to 6.5 pounds of feed per pound
of gain, with a goal of 4.5 to 5.0
TIPS ON MEETINGS
A meeting, like a story or a drama,
has a climax. If you plan a meeting so
that it peaks near the end, it helps to keep
the interest of the audience. But what
can be done to maintain that attention?
A printed agenda provides direction
and gives members security, psyching
them up for the business ahead.
Meet in a room large enough for the
group, but not so large that it allows
people to scatter. People in groups feel
more secure and optimistic when physi-
cally placed as a unit.
Have a definite goal to accomplish,
then keep it firmly in mind.
Plan the discussion. On whom can
you count to make it lively? Talk to
these people ahead of time.
When the meeting ends, the mem-
bers should understand exactly what de-
cisions have been made and what action
comes next.
Plan the meeting to provide variety,
change of pace, and even novelty now
and then. Consider the cardinal sin of
meetings to be "the sin of boring the
members."
Try this exercise to prepare yourself
for a meeting at which you will be
speaking about an issue: sit down with
one or two vocal members of your group
(not necessarily of your personal per-
suasion on an issue) and ask them to
express as many arguments and tech-
niques opposing your position as pos-
sible.0
