Perth County. He assumed duties on
September 17 as a lecturer/researcher in
the Agricultural Economics and Busi-
ness section at Ridgetown.
McEwan was involved deeply in
Farm Business Management projects at
the Stratford office. While at Stratford,
Ken continued his education, graduat-
ing from the Department of Agricultural
Economics and Business at the Univer-
sity of Guelph with a Master of Science
degree in 1989.0
EXCELLENCE IN
FORAGE HONOURED
Mac Thomson from Chesley is the
1990 winner of the local Grey Competi-
tion of the Ontario Forage Masters
Competition. Glynn Waterton of Annan
was runner-up, while Murray Kerr of
Meaford took third place. This provin-
cial competition is sponsored jointly by
C -I -L Inc., I.C.I. Bioproducts, and
Dekalb Canada Inc., in co-operation
with the Ontario Soil & Crop Improve-
ment Association. It is designed to rec-
ognize excellence in forage manage-
ment and identify producers to serve as
forage spokespersons.
Contestants enter a minimum of 10
acres of alfalfa which is judged in com-
bination with management factors, the
first -cut hay or haylage is judged, and a
sample taken for protein analysis.
The resulting top place county
winners then compete for the provincial
title. Thomson will be competing
against other county winners at the
Royal Winter Fair on November 13.0
BELLMAN AWARDED
Hank Bellman, formerly at the
Walkerton OMAF office, has been
named a Fellow of the Canadian Society
of Agricultural Engineering in recogni-
tion of his `outstanding contribution to
farm structures."
Bellman served for 37 years as an
Agricultural Engineering Extension
Specialist with the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
He is one of Canada's foremost
experts on silo construction.0
