FOOD AND COMPUTER FUN:
AN UNLIKELY COMBINATION
THAT WORKED!
When you combine food and computers as a hands-
on experience, you have four fun -filled days for a dozen
young people aged 10 to 14.
Centralia College of Agricultural Technology
(CCAT) co-ordinated a summer day camp in Walkerton
which included basic recipe preparation, planning and
serving balanced lunches, and a series of computer
sessions.
One of the participants, Sean MacDonald, from
Riversdale, says that he was there because he likes food
and he enjoys computers. "I like computers the best
though," he explains.
For junior cooks and computer enthusiasts, there
was a lot of good eating. Participants made yeast bread,
homemade noodles, and homemade ice cream. Jody
Benninger, from Formosa, says tasting the food was the
most fun. Andrea Congram, from Teeswater, says she
didn't know how to use a computer and wanted to learn.
The children got a chance to use lap -top computers and
learned basic word processing and spread sheet applica-
tions.
Instructors were Barb Klages, Walkerton, food
preparation, and Lynda Panelas, computer instructor at
CCAT.
The camp was what it promised to be — fun.
Already calls have been received for the next Fun with
Food and Computers. CCAT's Carol Moore says that it
will definitely be held again. 0
