:atch Season
County from September 18 to 22. If all the
right ingredients come together — weather,
public mood, and interest — at least 150,000
people are expected to descend on the 77th
IPM. Those eager plowmen, in only a few
hours on each of those five days, will turn over
250 hectares of ground.
Located primarily on the host farms of
Harry and Nancy Emmott and Bill and Carolyn
Telfer on Highway 24A near Paris, the match is
spread over 750 acres of a dozen farmers. The
tented city alone covers 100 acres, and more
than 500 exhibitors are expected to set up
displays in the "instant city." At the match, 250 volunteers are needed to handle
the daily onslaught of 30,000 people in their 10,000 cars.
As well as the professionals plowing each day, there will be special plowing
classes where spectators can get a good chuckle out of watching the media and
politicians trying to cover something up. An
added event will be a contest featuring a single -
furrow walking plow made by the Paris Plow
Company as well as daily demonstrations of
plowing with five and six -horse teams.
Brant County is also hosting the Canadian
Plowing Championships this year, with 12 senior
and 6 junior provincial champs competing. The
winner, as the new Canadian champ, will travel to
the World Plowing Cbampionship in Northern
Ireland next year.0
