4 THE RURAL VOICE
FEEDBACK
removed itself in the main from interfer-
ence in the arena of farm politics. This
was the rationale taken by the board as
recently as the spring of 1989 when opting
to remain virtually aloof from the Ontario
beef marketing vote.
However, suddenly an "about face"
has been created by the recent decision
of the OMMB to support an unnecessary,
undemocratic proposal without any re-
search and no individual producer opinion.
While our dairy industry is under
the greatest stress it has been subjected
to since its inception, requiring the utmost
commitment and strategic, sensitive
leadership, the elected members of the
OMMB should look again to the neutral
position with respect to farm politics that it
maintained it had to adopt and project in
order to rcmain viable and relevant.
At the very least, a neutral position in
farm politics protects the democratic rights
of all Ontario farmers and, most impor-
tantly, the rights of the dairy farmers who
provide the product and the finances.
