FINGER LICKIN' BARBECUED PORK
Our portable charcoal barbecue was
built in 1965. It has become very popu-
lar over the years and goes to many areas
of the province to promote pork and to
show how delicious pork can be.
The success of the pork barbecue is a
tribute to people such as the late Lome
Bell.
He was at almost every association
meeting during his farming and later his
retirement years. Lorne was active on
the barbecue committee to make sure
that the promotion of pork was an im-
portant part of our association.
The barbecue is operated by the
Perth County association directors.
Currently we have Wayne Hartung as
the chairman of the barbecue commit-
tee.
Wayne looks after the buying and
distributing of pork products to the di-
rectors as well as the scheduling for
events and upkeep of the barbecue.
All in all, it is quite a job to move so
much product, and our association is
therefore grateful to Wayne for his com-
mitment to the barbecue committee and
for the fine job he does.
The pork barbecue is a major part of
such popular events as the Zurich Bean
Festival and the Pork and Dairy Fest,
and it usually attends the annual Plow-
ing Match.
The barbecue is available upon re-
quest for any responsible group for
functions such as church dinners, family
reunions, etc. We sell about 10 to 15
tonnes of pork chops each year.
We now have different pork prod-
ucts available, such as marinated pork
steaks, boneless pork ribs, and pork bur-
gers which can be bought with or with-
out garlic seasoning.
The profits derived from the sales of
pork go back to the association and are
used for special programs, such as our
new pork promotion co-ordinator, stu-
dent scholarships — or the funds can be
used for any future event if so decided
by our association's directors.0
