FEEDBACK
i
Queen's Bush:
Queen's Bush Rural Ministries have
been serving the rural community for more
than two years, with varying degrees of
success. More than 1,000 callers have
availed themselves of this service by
calling 392-6090.
Although the Queen's Bush Rural
Ministries is a compassionate helping
service, it is also interested in identifying
the problems and finding ways to stop
them before the fact. In the near future,
a presentation will be made to the Bruce
Presbytery of the United Church, with
recommendations regarding the elim-
ination of some of the current hardships.
To formulate these recommendations, in-
formation from farm families who are ex-
periencing difficulties or those who have
solved their situations is crucial.
History shows that nations that allow
their agricultural sector to flounder will
themselves face survival hardships. In
Canada, we are rapidly moving to the point
where we are allowing our food supplies to
be imported. Such a circumstance, for a
nation that can produce bountifully, is
deplorable. Do Canadians neither deserve
nor want food to be produced in Canada?
The solution to this problem is ob-
vious. Farmers must be paid on a cost of
production basis with a reasonable profit
for survival!
This can only happen if society in
general reassess its values. Are Canadians
more interested in social justice or the pro-
fits promised by corporate and multina-
tional greed?
Churches and various affiliate organ-
izations have repeatedly come forth with
recommendations to rectify the social
injustices prevalent today. They seem to
be duly noted, but lack the support to make
an impact for change. People, not govern-
ment, have always been the catalyst for
change. A necessary factor in change is
unity. Today there is very little unity
among farmers, farm organizations, or
commodity groups. Involvement in these
organizations seems to be apathetic.
Even though many people realize what
must be done, they are hesitant. They feel
insecure in their abilities and lack the faith
needed to convince themselves they can
make changes.
The Queen's Bush Rural Ministries has
a sincere desire to offer help. Hardships
can only be eliminated with the support
and guidance of the people who live and
work daily with injustices. You can make
a difference! If you have a problem, or a
solution, just call 392-6090.0
