R. 4, Stratford N5A 6S5 655-2750 • The Rural Voice is provided to Perth County Pork Producers by the PCPPA DIALOGUE ON PORK QUALITY AND MARKETING 11 Upper Kinsmen Hall, Stratford Fairgrounds Tuesday, January 16, 1990 and Tuesday, January 30, 1990 Registration at 9:15 a.m. — Program starts promptly at 9:45 a.m. Cost — $16 for one day or $30 for both days (includes lunch) All area pork producers and pork industry personnel are invited to attend this meeting and take advantage of the opportunity to interact with all involved in the Ontario pork industry and to discuss various concerns and challenges with regard to current pork industry issues. DAY 1 January 16, 1990 This day will focus on pork quality. Scheduled speakers include: Cathy Aker Cathy will give a pictorial "tour" and evaluation of the Danish OMAF and Swedish pork systems. Dr. Allan Schinckel Purdue University, U.S.A. John Burnett J. M. Schneider Inc. David McDonald OPPMB Dr. Schinckel will discuss genetic and management influences controlling swine carcass composition. John will give a packer's perspective on PSE pork and carcass uniformity. David will discuss the direction the Ontario pork industry must take as it evolves over the next 10 years. DAY 2 January 30, 1990 This day will focus on pork marketing. Scheduled speakers include: Dr. Larry Martin University of Guelph Don Gingrich, President National Pork Producers Council, U.S.A. Bill McLean J. M. Schneider Inc. Dr. Gordon Bowman University of Guelph Dr. Martin will give an update on the mechanics of Canadian/ American pork trade and pork countervail. Don will speak on how Canadian pork imports affect the American industry. Bill will discuss the potential of the domestic pork market. Dr. Bowman will present his thoughts on how the pork marketing system must adapt to meet the demands of the industry. Representatives from Ontario's four major pork packers and the OPPMB have been invited to attend and give their input on all topics under discussion. • All speakers are guests of the Perth County Pork Producers Association. Registration deadline is January 12, 1990. Make cheques payable to the Perth County Pork Producers Association. Since there is an excellent line-up of speakers for the program, you should register early to ensure a seat. Advance registration is required.
