Farm Hiker Tour held in Auburn area
The Annual Farm Hiker Tour was
held on a sunny, but cool Sunday,
October 1.
Preceding the tour the Auburn Lions,
Club accommodated people to include
their all -you -can -eat country breakfast.
Outside the Auburn Hall, Bob
Mullin, field representative for the
Chicken Farmers of Ontario manned
the Chicken Mobile, a mini -model of a
chicken barn. Children were delighted
with the chicks; adults received
excellent information.
On the road trip, Roger's Botanical
Garden and Nursery,'bwned by James
Roger displayed on-site beautiful
landscaping and ponds, trees and
innovative water techniques to the
appreciative guests.
The family -operated Robinson
Maple Products (Bill and Susanne)
Resolution defeated at OFA Board meeting
provided a•tour of their extensive
tapping/tubing system, modern sugar
camp, autumn woods paths and the
opportunity to purchase products.'
Heather Holme Holsteins, owned by
Glen and Vanda McNeil, allowed
visitors to see a dairy farm and learn
about dairy genetics.
Dianne Foster and Kevin Campbell,
owners of Ravenswood Stable, showed
purebred saddlebred and standardbred
horses, as well as a riding lesson area,
boarding stalls and paddocks.
At John Gaunt's Treasure Valley
Crocus Farm, five million lavender
"Naked Ladies" crocuses were
impressive to see.
The Wawanosh Nature Centre Fall
Colour Tour was included, sponsored
by the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority. offered wagon rides, guided

passed at the September Board of
Directors Meeting of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture, and will be
forwarded to the OFA Board meeting
in Toronto on October 18 for final
approval.
WHEREAS many farmers and their
organizations are becoming
increasingly frustrated with the Federal
and Ontario governments because
recent CAIS enhancements do not
level the playing field for many farmers
competing against U.S. subsidy
programs, the Alberta Revenue
insurance program or the Quebec
ASRA and
WHEREAS last winter local
snowmobile clubs were sympathetic to
the plight of farm families and have
indicated support for the Farmers Feed
Cities Campaign; and
WHEREAS last winter they were
willing to co-operatively close the trails
as a show of support; and
WHEREAS closing the snowmobile
trails would have a large impact on
provincial tourism industry as well as
tax dollars to the provincial
government;
'THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
THAT the Ontario Federation of

Agriculture lobby the Ontario
Federation of Snowmobile Clubs and
individual snowmobile districts to
encourage continuation and expansion
of last winter's voluntary trail closures
initiative as a show of support for the
farm income crisis until fully funded
Risk Management Programs are
developed.
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT
if the OFAC does not encourage trail
closures as a show of support for the
farm income crisis the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture urge farmers
that have trail right-of-way permission
. to revoke access across their properties
until the farm income crisis is resolved
as per the Farmers Feed Cities
Campaign with the implementation of
fully funded Risk Management
Programs.

October 18.
