be our highest -profile anniversary
celebration," says 4-H Ontario
council president Shirley Steed.
"This is a wonderful way to highlight
the activities and achievements of
Ontario's largest rural youth
organization."
The celebration will also include
the Arbor Awards, which recognize
4-H Ontario volunteer contributions,
and the Ambassador Program, which
trains senior youth to be 4-H Ontario
representatives. An exhibit beside the
Cover -All dairy barn will display
artifacts and literature dating back to
the 1920s. And visitors can test their
agricultural knowledge against 441
members in the Go -For -The -Gold
challenge.
A11 current 2005 4-H members
holding a valid ID card will
get free admission to
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show.
The show will also welcome
guests of the Indian Agricultural
Program of Ontario. The IAPO a
farm loan and agricultural extension
and advisory program - is offering
complimentary passes to the Show to
status Indians across Ontario. IAPO
general manager Wayne Martin says
clients are encouraged to attend the
Show to learn about the latest in
agriculture so they can take home
what they've learned and apply it to
their own operations.
"Our farmers benefit greatly from
seeing the newest practices and
technologies first-hand," says Martin.
"And the Show's large variety of
programs makes it easy for them to
get the latest information in livestock
and crop production and financial
management."
The IAPO is based in Stirling.
Ontario — in the Belleville/Trenton
area - and co-ordinates the operation
of tailored demonstration farms on
many Ontario Indian reserves. For
example, a farm on the Six Nations
reserve in the Brantford area holds
tillage demonstrations and variety
trials for corn, soybeans and winter
wheat, while programs on Manitoulin
Island's reserves focus on beef
production — the primary livelihood
in that area.
