OMAFRA exhibit maps and
postcards will be available around the
COFS site to help visitors navigate to
the Ministry's eight sites.
For a first-hand look at the latest
seed and crop technologies sprouting
up in the fields. farmers can check
out the crop plots and demos.
More than a dozen major seed
and chemical companies
will showcase their newest
seed and crop input technologies and
products on-site. Visitors can watch
crop input equipment in action and
talk to company representatives
about the uses and benefits of the
various products.
' "The crop plots are a unique part
of the Show," says Henrietta Coole,
director of client relations for
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show.
"Visitors appreciate being able to
explore the plots up,close and learn
about new crop input technologies."
In addition to the crop plots, there
are a variety of other crop
demonstrations at the Show. Bayer
CropScience will present an Asian
Soybean Rust ID clinic and a
fungicide spray demo for wheat and
soybeans. led by Helmut Spieser and
Albert Tenuta from Ridgetown
College.
At the crop plots, visitors will see
the latest in farming innovation from
BASF Canada, Bayer Inc.. Direct
Seeds Inc., Dow AgroSciences-
Mycogen Seeds, Dupont Canada
Limited, Hyland Seeds Ltd.,
Monsanto Canada Inc./Dekalb Brand
Seeds, Pioneer Hi -Bred Limited, NK
Brand-Syngenta Seeds Canada Inc.
acid Pride Brand Seeds, which has
been relocated to North Mall this
year.
A new initiative is aimed at
raising awareness of the benefits that
bio -fuels, such as ethanol and bio -
diesel, and other bio -based products
bring to agriculture.
The first-ever Bio -Products and
Bio -Fuels Bonanza will be held at the
Show in a tent on Third Lane.
Exhibitors, including the Central
Ontario Energy AllianceTM, the
Canadian Renewable Fuels
Association, Ontario Agri -Food
Technologies, the City of Guelph and
the Canadian Sweet Potato Ethanol
Alliance, will have representatives
and other resources available to help
visitors learn about various bio -based
products and their benefits to
agriculture.

says farmers appreciate that because
bio -fuels are made with home-grown
crops, using them means they're
supporting local growers. And
today's producers are more
environmentally conscious and sec
the benefits of burning cleaner fuels,
he adds.
"Farmers are our core customers,"
says McIntosh. "Not only do bio-
fuels present a better end -product,
but they support agriculture by
offering another market option for
corn and soybean growers."

to Canada's Outdoor Farm Show.

Technologies promoting
environmentally friendlier nutrient
management practices for farmers
will be demonstrated as part of a
growing Nutrient Management/Clean
Water program.
A solar pumping and fencing
system will be in operation, showing
farmers how to harness this
alternative energy source. An Eco
Green demo will feature a manure
composting and recycling system that
helps to reduce erosion and nutrient
run-off. And a Geomembrane — a
pond membrane that collects gas and
helps to control algae, odour and
temperature — will be on display. The
expo's co-ordinator, Shelley Hand.
says the expo emphasizes the
importance of maintaining
responsible nutrient management
practices on the farm.
"Farmers are concerned with how
their activities influence the
environment," says Hand. "The
Show provides an avenue for them to
discover better ways to reduce the
effects."
Other expo highlights include a
windmill aeration system in the farm
