Have you happened to bump into
my hubby, Ward lately? If you have
you'll already know we're about to
be first time grandparents. 1 am
thrilled and the expectant grampa is
over the moon!
In the beginning we had to keep
reminding Ward that there was a
priority list as to whom found out the
good news and when...Ward was so
giddy he shared his news far and
wide!
1 am busily assisting with the
decor of the nursery — a rather rare
treat as very few people hire a
decorator to design a nursery. Heidi
and Dan settled on a very clean
scheme of a warm white and a light
celadon green. They wanted colours
that would work with either gender as
they've chosen to let the baby
surprise them with its sex rather than
discovering ahead of time.
The room is entirely soft white
and we found a most beautiful sheer
fabric in celadon to drape, floor -
length, on the windows in
combination with a soft, mixed -green
marble -printed fabric which is
worked onto the rod area of the
treatment. This effectively gives the
room an extremely pale green hue.
We re -styled a beautiful old
armoire with our celadon colouration.
We then added a pretty little leaf
motif, which is a shade darker, to
each of the five drawers and the two
doors and then tipped each leaf with a
little touch of a royal navy shade.
Each drawer and door was then
treated to a charming drawer pull
featuring a porcelain daisy in deep
celadon green with a navy center.
The one door incorporates a mirror
while the other sports a gathered
length of our marbled print material.
The piece is a real showstopper and
so sweet!
We re -designed a shelving unit to
hold bric-a-brac in our celadon hue
and it now sports the letters L -O -V -E
all in white marble sporting little
cherubs lounging along each
individual letter.
Heidi has very specific taste in
artwork. She did not want Disney
prints or other cartoon -type
characters in artwork or bedding to be
used in any way at all. Instead she
opted to use a wonderful art piece
from 1945 called "Freckle Face"
which is a watercolour of a little boy
winning first place at the fair. She
also has a watercolour from the 1930s
that features a mom cradling her little
one before a moonlit window entitled
"Goodnight". this we have positioned
directly over the crib...(1 figure that
will work in that place for a month or
two before the wee one discovers it
and it's on the floor!) And the final
print is a sweet nursery rhyme from
the 1940s featuring a wise old owl.
Each piece of artwork incorporates
the Celadon and royal navy hues.
providing greater impact within the
decor. Heidi is also planning on
incorporating baby pictures of both
her and Dan into the room as well.
The crib sports a floor -length
white dust ruffle and all the linens are
in white and celadon hues for
continuity. I've commissioned a
"spiritual crib quilt" to be made by
Vicki Jacklin in the Belmore area.
Vicki is in the process of starting her
new business and was as excited as I
to create such a piece. The quilt will
feature the four elements along with
Heidi's and Dan's astrological birth
symbols, as well as that of the baby's,
and a spiritual circle and star. The
quilt has a background of a mini -
white -on -white print and will
incorporate our celadon green tone
and the multi -green marble print. A
large stained glass heart dangles in
the window, and a mythical tower in
off white. featuring a soft pink bulb.
is the nightlite accessory.
So, this nursery project, along with
a very busy spring. has had me just
hopping. and as the due date
approaches I look at Ward and 1
imagine him on the couch. legs
curled into a circle where a baby sits
cuddled up with Grampa, and they're
watching cartoons together! The
Divine willing that will be exactly
what will happen. I'll let you know
sex and.name upon arrival!O
