processors of wool. Since Ontario
has few options for people wanting
to process their own wool for higher
value. she decided to buy the
equipment and set up the Lindenhof
Wool Mill on her Allenford-area
farm in northern Bruce County.
"It's frustrating that wool's a
resource that isn't valued." says her
daughter Kristine, an environmental
studies graduate from York
University who has come home to
help her mother in the new venture
which went into operation this past
winter. "We felt that Grey and Bruce
Counties are a big sheep area. We
felt that adding value to wool could
help producers and make use of this
resource."
The family came from Germany
to buy a dairy operation near
Monkton in Perth County in
1988. When it became evident that
none of their four children was
interested in dairying, they sold their
quota, cows and land and moved
north to Bruce to start over. They set
up a bed and breakfast in a second
home on the farm and bought some
beef, sheep and a few horses.
The family's direction changed
radically when Angelika's husband
died and she had to strike out in a
new direction. "We had been farmers
all our lives," she says. The idea of
the mill gained momentum.
She went to Prince Edward Island
to learn about the mill. "They want
you to see their operation," she says.
