the semi-finals.
It would not be possible to have a
successful competition each year without
everyone's participation and co-operation.
Everyone's support is greatly appreciated.

Regional Director
has concerns
Today I have two concerns. Number 1: The
March 2 "One Voice" Rally to Queen's Park.
Was it a success? With 8,000 members at the
rally compared to the Lanark Landowners
Association's rally. I would say a resounding
and definite yes.
The funding to farmers before March 2
compared to atter went from zero to a billion
dollars. I would say this is success.
However, OFA and its membership must
stay the course to make agriculture viable now
and down the road not only on the income side
but also on the research side. The Ontario
Agriculture College (OAC) in Guelph is getting
its budget cut by five to six per cent every
year. How will the OAC make any advances
with continued Cuts to its budget?
My second concern is the purchase of
Better Beef by Cargill. Is it a good or bad?
There are many answers to the question.
Some have the opinion that the merger is not
the best for cattle producers. There is the
possibility that Cargill could close its plants
and we would really have a situation second to
what we have now Others think maybe more
beef will move across the border in boxes.
With the Americans fighting themselves in
their courts, I think this might be our best
chance.
