Country Canada host headlines Farm$mart 2005
On January 15 leading speakers
from around the world will gather in
Guelph to continue the tradition of
providing leading edge information
to Ontario's farmers.
Since its inception seven years
ago, the Farm$mart Agricultural
Conference has grown in both
quantity and quality. "We have added
even more sessions to our agenda this
year" commented conference
organizer Julia Williams. "With all
the current issues facing Ontario
agriculture, it was difficult to keep it
from expanding".
Few Canadians have had the
opportunities that this year's feature
speaker has to explore the many
facets of Canadian agriculture. As
host of CBC Television's Country
Canada for 25 years, Sandy Cushon
brought not only images of our
industry, but the people as well. into
homes across this country.
"I have told people that if I had a
million dollars, I would probably pay
to go and see the places, and meet the
people that I have met, as part of my
job. It has been so much fun."
Cushon was born and raised on the
family farm near Oxbow
Saskatchewan.
Sandy graduated from Carleton
University in 1969. Following
graduation. Cushon worked for two
years with the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture as information officer P,
and joined the CBC in the fall of
1972. Sandy retired from Country
Canada in 2000.
With 50 sessions ranging from
computer labs, to crop updates, to the
latest information on BSE,
Farm$mart 2005 has something for
everyone involved in Ontario
Agriculture, from students to those
planning for retirement. Join both
local and international presenters for
an information -packed day that will
make a difference to your farm.
Farm$mart is organized jointly by
the Golden Horseshoe and Heartland
Regional Soil and Crop Improvement
Associations, the Ontario
Agricultural College, the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food,
and Agribusiness. Registrations begin
at 8:15 a.m. and the final session is
finished at 4:30. Participants are able
to set their own agendas for the day
as they pick and choose from 50
timely topics held over seven time
slots. Several sessions qualify for
CCA CEU credits.
The registration fee, including
your choice of a hot meal or box
lunch and refreshments, is only $50.
