Annual Farm Hiker Tour a success
The Huron Farm Hiker Tour on
October 3 was a huge success.
It was a cool, but sunny day for
the tour of the Blyth, Belgrave and
Brussels area farms and agri-
businesses. The tour stopped at Jim
and Evelyn Blake's dairy farm; G.L.
Hubbard Ltd. (rutabaga processing
plant); Blythe Brooke Orchards
owned by Mason Bailey; Shepherd's
Fold (sheep) owned by Bethanee
Jensen; Riverside Perennials owned
by Leo and Corry Sanders; Turkey
Run Ranch (horses), owned by Brian
and JoAnn Workman; WBX Cattle
(beef), owned by Dave and Rosemary
Wheeler; Bauer Farms (corn plots),
owned by Mervyn and Orval Bauer;
and the Cowboy Loft, owned by Tim
and Donna Prior.
About 140 carloads, nearly 430
people in all, from as far away as
Toronto and Ottawa participated in
the tour.
A harvest supper followed at the
BMG Community Centre served by
the Brussels Agricultural Society to
approximately 275 people at the end
of the tour. Donations were made to
the food bank as entry fees to the
tour.
A huge thank you is owed to
Karen and Fred Uhler and Dorothy
Cummings and their committee who
organized this educational event.
Thank you.0
