The Ontario government has
created a special deer hunt to reduce
overpopulation problems that are
plaguing farmers and motorists.
This hunt .could see an extra
10,000 deer killed in addition to the
more than 50,000 that are brought
down annually by hunters. In some
areas hunters will be allowed to take
up to seven deer, depending on the
deer problems which have arisen
from that area. The Ministry of
Natural Resources will release 36,305
Ontario expands deer hunt
deer seals, which allow hunters to kill
a deer. In some areas they will be
allowed to take. between two and six
extra animals, in addition to the
single deer they get to kill with their
hunting permits. Each deer seal will
cost $34 for Ontarians.
The Niagara area, Lanark and
other areas near Ottawa are
experiencing the worst deer
problems. In the past 20 years the
deer population has quadrupled to
400,000 from 100.000 in Ontario.
