making up for two years without

However, the IPM committee
won't be far from their minds. They
are taking 20 members with them.
With a chuckle, Pearl says, "No
meetings though, just fun."0
Woodlot tour will
show effects
of management
decisions
Farming is about more than
just harvesting a crop or
raising livestock, it is about
managing the land and the
woodlot tour featured at IPM
2004 near Meaford in Grey
County will focus on that aspect
of farm life.
Two unique woodlots back
onto the IPM site, just behind the
trailer park, says committee chair
Joe Watson.
Though both are hard maple
forests, the management styles
were different and they are in
different stages of regeneration.
"(Good management) can
improve the quality and provide a
good income for farmers," says
Watson, especially with the
difficulties in the farming
industry over the past few years.
"Farmers can use it as a crop
in poor years. It is cash in the
bank."
Relatively new to the IPM, the
woodlots tours have been
supported by the Grey County
Forest Stewardship Network,
Bruce Resource Stewardship
Network, Grey Sauble
Conservation Authority, the Grey
Bruce Woodlot Association,
Wiley Forestry Services and Land
and Forest Consulting.
The 45 -minute tours led by
professionals in the industry will
be leaving from Gate 3. The times
are expected to be 10 a.m., 11:30
a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The committee has also co-
ordinated the location of all
agencies concerned with
conservation and management of
resources in one tent so that
visitors may more easily find
information of interest.0
