With growing concerns over Nutrient Management regulations and new building construction, farmers are demanding better quality concrete. Joe Matthews with the Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario, says that using a value- added concrete has many benefits, including workability, strength, quality, durability and reduced porosity. The "old practice" of using only water to improve workability dilutes concrete causing it to be of lower strength and far less durable. As the concrete hardens, increased shrinkage occurs as the excess water evaporates, causing it to crack excessively and be far more porous with reduced surface durability. Show visitors can witness how the workability of concrete can be achieved by adding just a small amount of this admixture to the mix. The demo team will be pouring this value-added concrete into see-
