The Rural Voice, 2004-09, Page 23proved to be of great interest to the
producers," says Underhill. "With
continued biosecurity efforts,
producers can watch several
innovative pieces of equipment in
operation."
The Swine Pavilion, which
accommodates commercial exhibits
on everything from feed to genetics
to equipment, will expand this year
to 220 ft. from 160 ft. in 2003.
For biosecurity reasons, all swine
demos will be presented in a separate
building from the main Swine
Pavilion allowing producers to
choose whether to enter the viewing
area. Hand -wash stations will be
available.
All pigs in the demos will be
from high health herds and all
animals will be blood -tested
before arrival at the Show to ensure
they provide minimum disease risk.
All hogs will be at market weight and
after the Show. they will be sent
direct to slaughter.
The Dairy Expo will again see a
demonstration of the Lely Astronaut
robotic milking with a 50 -head cow
herd for the fifth year.
Farmers will have a chance to
witness a fully -automated dairy barn
in operation. Ontario Harvestore will
be installing a Rovibec robotic feeder
in the show's Lely Astronaut Barn
and it will be in full operation during
the three days of the show. The
Rovibec system and a JAY-LOR
TMR mixer will prepare and
distribute feed to the herd.
In addition, the Ontario
Harvestore Slurrystore will tend to
the manure from the cows used in the
demos, and along with a manure
digester, will showcase leading-edge
manure storage and handling. The
introduction of a "Big Ass Fan" will
serve the ventilation requirements of
the dairy barn. The fan has a 24 -foot
diameter to -maximize efficiency of
air circulation.
Adjacent to the dairy barn, JAY-
LOR will be featuring a demo to
highlight the speed and durability of
their advanced TMR mixer. Twice
daily, both JAY-LOR and Rovibec
will participate in an interactive
feeding demo.
"We are please to continue
expanding the show's Dairy Expo,"
says Underhill. "This year producers
can continue to learn about the latest
