18 THE RURAL VOICE
our lineup," says the show's Shelley
Hand. "It provides a great learning
experience for show visitors."
Beef producers can witness a beef
breed championship, a carcass
competition, a rotational grazing
demonstration and more while
visiting the Beef Expo — one of six
livestock expos — at the show.
The Canadian Limousin Showcase
will return for the second year,
featuring a 100 -head breed show, a 4-
H judging competition and genetic
testing. Last year was the first time a
beef breed show was held in
conjunction with Canada's Outdoor
Farm Show. The event is housed in a
50 -foot by 140 -foot Cover -All fabric
building and is sponsored by Cover -
All Building Systems of Ontario.
Shur -Gain, Merial and Canada's
Outdoor Farm Show.
Jordon Underhill, the show's
livestock marketing co-ordinator
says both visitors and the hosts
of the event — the Ontario Limousin
Association — were pleased with last
year's success. "The Canadian
Limousin Showcase has proven to be
an excellent complement to our Beef
Expo, offering producers a chance to
see the best of the breed while
visiting the Show," says Underhill.
Also part of the 2004 Beef Expo is
the Quality Carcass Competition,
open to a limit of 40 purebred and
commercial entries. The three
producers with the top -grading cattle,
judged on marbling and yield, will
win cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000
and $500.The cattle will be on
display during the Show and
afterwards, federal graders will select
the winning carcass.
Visitors to the show will also have
a chance to win by scoring the cattle
entered in the competition and
estimating carcass quality. The
visitor that scores the winning animal
closest to the actual post -Show
grading will receive a box of steaks
cut from the winning carcass.
At the Swine Expo, live swine
demos will take place twice a day
and the new demos include an
automated sow feeder and piglet
feeder; ultrasounding; and needle -
free injection. The auto -weighing and
sorting system demo, a highlight
from last year, will also return.
