Stewardship Plan workshops scheduled A series of workshops on developing a stewardship plan for natural areas on your rural property is being planned. Speakers and a hands-on workshop will help rural landowners learn about: • resource features that may be present on your property • why they might wish to develop a stewardship plan and how to go Tree planting funds available The Huron Stewardship Council has some limited funding support available for landowners interested in planting trees. The funds are targeted towards landowners interested in enlarging existing woodlots or planting corridors connecting existing natural areas. (This could include windbreaks or buffers along watercourses that meet the criteria.) Up to 50 cents per seedling (to a maximum of 1,000 seedlings) will be provided for approved projects. Saturday, March 27 - 10:00 a.m. to noon Naturalizing Areas on your Property • options for restoring natural vegetation to your property including various approaches to achieve your objectives, species selection and sources, tending, etc. Wildlife on your Property • identification, habitat needs, attracting wildlife and dealing with nuisance wildlife Saturday, April 17 - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Stewardship Planning Field Session • hands-on activities including species identification, inventory, NMAN program workshop available Introduction to NMAN (the Nutrient Management software program) is a one -day course intended for generators and receivers of prescribed nutrients and agri- business service providers who are planning to use Ontario's NMAN software to assist them in preparing nutrient management strategies and plans. Previous experience with the software is valuable, but not necessary. Prerequisite is a knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrient management. The fee $25 (includes lunch and refreshments). The workshop will be held March 16 in Guelph; March 31, Owen Sound; May 20, Ridgetown; July 22, 56 THE RURAL VOICE Stratford and September 28, Guelph.
