Farmers come together to help each other
Greetings from the Town of the
Blue Mountains (former Collingwood
Township and town of Thornbury).
In our township 60 per cent of the
population are part-time residents,
and this presents all sorts of unique
situations for the farmers. We have
some very Targe residential
developments and several new golf
courses. as well as a number of ski
hills. Interest has brought investors
and new development to this
township.
Our township federation has been
busy this year. We helped organize
four livestock medicine courses, held
an annual meeting, and in September
we had a booth at the Thornbury Fair.
Our club gave a prize for the best
market Iamb. In April we helped
organize a nutrient management
course at Thornbury which was well
attended.
Two of the ongoing concerns for
our township are water taking and the
desire of investors to erect large wind

GREY COUNTY FEDERATION OF
AGRICULTURE
Who We are and What We Do -
Mission Statement:
The Grey County Federation of Agriculture works toward economic growth
and community stability, for Grey County farmers, in support of the individual.
Membership:
Members of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture in the County make up the
membership of GCFA. A portion of each OFA membership fee, $25, funds
GCFA. The board supports the grass roots work of the organization by
passing on $3 of each membership to fund the Township Federations who are
involved in many local activities.
Board of Directors:
The Board is made up of the Presidents or appointed representatives of
Township Federations, as well as Commodity and other farm organization
representatives, while the annual meeting elects the President and Vice
Presidents. Three regional directors, who also sit on the GCFA executive
committee, represent members at the provincial level.
The Grey County Federation of Agriculture board holds regular monthly
meetings, annual meeting/banquet events, and from time to time hosts public
information meetings. The board makes every effort to participate at hearings
and public consultations relevant to agriculture, as well as naming
representatives to ag-related organizations in the community. Additionally, the
board includes commodity representatives among their directors, and supports
the efforts of other agricultural organizations in the community.
All of this structure and outreach creates many opportunities for the local
board to represent the interests of farmers, especially OFA members.0

As farmers we need to join forces
and support our farm organizations,
so together we can help each other.
We can do this by attending county
federation meetings, becoming
involved in local issues and offering
positive suggestions.
If you are not part of the solution,
then you are part of the problem.
Wishing everyone a joyous season
and the best in the new year.0
