of Thomas Canning (Utopia brand
tomatoes); Jennifer Haley, Ontario
Veal Association; Cliff Laidlaw,
owner of Apple Factory and Maury
Bredahl of the University of Guelph
along with Mary Jane Combe, co -
coordinator of Aglnnovation to talk
about marketing.
Visiting display booths presented
by service providers and value-added
agricultural enterprises will be part of
the conference experience.
Participants are invited to "Show
Your Stuff' with details available on-
line.
Aside from the conference, the site
offers support to entrepreneurs
seeking guidance, whether through
business start-up information or
financial assistance.
As a not-for-profit organization,
OAVAIN receives funding from
several sources to provide for the
project fund. Though the funding
currently goes solely to Brant,
Haldimand or Norfolk County
endeavors, the initiative may
encourage other communities to
develop similar programs.
Another interesting undertaking by
OAVAIN will be seen in secondary
schools of Norfolk and Brant Counties
this fall, with collaboration from 4-H
Ontario and Junior Achievement of
Grand Erie. They are offering a
"hands-on entrepreneurial program for
rural youth". The students will be
given the opportunity to develop their
own value-added enterprise, with the
support, knowledge and guidance of
farmer/consultants who have taken
risks in seeking out new markets for
their own products through innovative
methods and alternative crops and
livestock.
In continuing the theme of
supporting enterprising youth, the
Aglnnovation site provides
information and a link regarding the
Enterprise Edge 2003 conference to be
held in Kitchener, November 5-8. For
more information on this celebration
of youth entrepreneurs, go to
www. EnterpriseEdge2003. ca
