It's been a challenging first year as president
My first year as the President 01
the Grey County Federation of
Agriculture is almost complete and it
has been quite a challenge and a
learning experience for me.
Last September I vā as approached
by Gertie Blake. the OFA Field
Representative for Grey and Bruce
Counties and asked if I would
consider letting my name stand as a
candidate for the President's position.
I was quite surprised to be considered
for the job. A few days later 1 was
told that no one else had agreed to let
their name stand for the position. and
I was acclaimed as President at the
Grey County Federation of
Agriculture annual meeting on
October 4.
Looking back over the past year 1
am a little disappointed over the lack
of participation from members to
attend our monthly board meetings,
or run for a position in office. After
all the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture has the best interests of
its members in mind to have the best
possible outcome on all the issues
and concerns which affect all
farmers. Members are welcome to
attend our monthly board of
directors' meetings which are held
the fourth Thursday at the Grey
Agricultural Services Centre in
Markdale.
Being the youngest member
attending our monthly board
meetings. my outlook for the future
may be somewhat different than that
of the older members. I believe the
time has come to bring a change to
the way things are done in Grey
County and Ontario. At home on the
farm we try to work and plan our
farm operation so that we can handle
the challenges of the future, be it
environmental, livestock related, or
adequate land base issues.
1 believe that when we all work
together and speak with one united
