When Ontarians go to the polls Oct. 2, they will face a choice between the Ernie Eves government's proven track record of fiscal
responsibility with targeted investments in the province's future—and other political parties advocating tax and spend policies.
Ernie Eves and 1 are committed to putting students first by banning teacher strikes during the school year and ensuring all high school
graduates can read and write. We are also the only party committed to maintaining equality in education services through equal per
pupil funding, while at the same time investing $119 million a year in keeping open small rural schools that are a community focus.
Only our government will help seniors stay in their homes as long as they are able by eliminating the provincial portion of the
education property tax and saving the average seniors' household $475 annually.
Both personally and as a PC Party member, I believe in home ownership. Our government will allow a homeowner to deduct up to
$500 a year towards the cost of mortgage interest.
Of course, helping agriculture will continue to be a major focus of an Ernie Eves government. We will strengthen our safety nets for
all farmers while continuing special province -only aid to a cattle industry badly hurt by the BSE. We are also vigorously defending
family farms against collective bargaining, and guaranteeing that small farmers will get the funding they need before nutrient
management regulations are implemented.
Improving health care services in rural areas remains a challenge. An Ernie Eves government will ensure more doctors, nurses, and
nurse practitioners for under -serviced areas. We will allow nurse practitioners to perform a wider range of services while maintaining
our commitment to small and rural hospitals.
