Paul Mistele visits Huron farms On Tuesday, August 12 Paul Mistele, OFA Executive attended a "kitchen type" meeting at the farm of Will Stafford in North Huron with about a dozen area OFA members in attendance. BSE, from many different angles, was the main topic of discussion, along with the Agriculture Policy Framework, and information from the Ontario Agriculture Commodity Council urging all farmers to work together to overcome problems. An afternoon meeting took place with Paul at the Huron Federation of Agriculture office in Vanastra with 18 in attendance. Topics discussed were BSE, farm liabilities, eg. (combines using escort vehicle, driving with head off when on road), education (or lack of local schools) regarding infrastructure in rural communities Huron County Federation of Agriculture BOARD MEETING Fourth Monday of the Month 8:00 p.m. — Vanastra Office Members Welcome! Speaking competition offers big prizes Young Speakers for Agriculture is a national event at the Royal Winter Fair, Saturday, November 8. Tuesday evening Paul attended a barbecue at the home of Director Henry and Deb Damsma south of Clinton. Following a pot luck meal, with thanks to Paul Nairn, our Member Service Rep. who donated and cooked the meat, Paul Mistele met for two hours with the Directors in attendance for discussion. OFA Ron Bonnett, OFA President was originally planning to attend these events, however, at the last minute he was asked to accompany Minister of Agriculture Helen Johns to the United States on a mission to discuss the BSE with American officials, thus Paul Mistele filled in Cali for Nominations We are always looking for Directors to serve on the Huron Federation Board to represent Huron at the OFA Board and also as delegates to OFA Convention November 24-25. Places to visit include a dairy farm, deer farm, nursery, beef farm, horse farm, and a pork display at the end of the tour. Tickets will be available for a supper that evening.
