The Rural Voice, 2003-09, Page 66AgriTech Learning more about the 2003 Aside from getting you there and finding you a place to stay, the website provides ample information on what to see and do While at Rural Expo 2003. With the theme "From the land... Comes the dream...", this IPM, set on 1,500 acres in the municipalities of Beckwith and Mississippi Hills, will tell the story of technological success in partnership with agriculture while remembering the traditions of plowing matches. There will be antique and historical displays, practical and educational workshops on the environment, musical entertainment from across the county and around the world and, of course, an abundance of food and products from the area. The What's New button links visitors to information on accommodations, as previously mentioned, but also forms for display registration, a printable (with Acrobat Reader) IPM brochure, souvenirs, and a ton of interesting activities for teachers and their students. Janice Becker is a computer enthusiast and journalist living near Walton, ON. By Janice Becker If you have a little time to spare this fall between harvesting tasks, a trip east to Lanark County near Ottawa for Rural Expo 2003 can be a great addition to fall activities. At www.ruralexpo2003.ca, I found a great site for those contemplating taking in the International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Show, September 17 to 21. The site offers a tremendous amount of information, making it very easy for potential exhibitors to register, campers to find a site and visitors to plan their days. Unfort- unately, the deadline for purchasing advance tickets, at a lower rate, was August 29. For campers, the booking of a site can be completed, as sites are still available. Until September 7, all sites will be booked on a weekly basis for September 15 to 22 inclusive. Foll- owing that, non -registered campers can book for a few days' stay. Of the 1,600, 30' by 50' lots, 1,300 are serviced and will rent for $200 per week, including four adult tickets to the show. The unserviced lots go for $150. Daily rates are $60 (with two tickets) and $45 respectively. Site selection is made easy as the website displays a very good map of the campgrounds. Connect either through the "What's New" button then look for trailer park or click the Open Hours, Rates, "Directions" button. Other accommodation possibilities can be found under the What's New button with close to 200 hotels, mot- els, cottages, bed and breakfasts and off-site campgrounds listed. Contact information is provided for all. Maps of the area also make it simple to find the plowing match site. 62 THE RURAL VOICE • IPM For those who love the comfort of homecooking, the IPM cookbook, with 216 pages and more than 500 recipes is available for just $10. The "recipes of the month" can be printed for a sampling of the offerings. The "Visitors" button gives you a brief history of plowing matches, tells of the 20 -acre pioneer village display and allows you to go shopping. Progiamming offers a printable schedule of events, perfect if only a couple of days in the north can fit into your schedule. For anyone over 40, a memory from the past can be relived when Memories of Don Messer's Jubilee comes to the Perth and District Coll- egiate Institute, September 20 and 21. The 2003 IPM promises to be packed with wonderful events, so check it out on-line, then head north. And best of all, Lanark County witnesses the splendour of fall colours long before southern -western Ontario so the scenery should be spectacular.0 QUALITY FLOORING FOR FARROWING BARNS V -bar Flooring • 2 ft. to 10 ft. lengths • 2 ft. widths • knurled or smooth bars • galvanized • self supporting Vandepas Welding R.R. 2 Kenilworth, ON 519-848-6537 CaII for the dealer nearest you.
