Youth Round Table on the Environment (YRTE) Environment Canada is currently recruiting new members that are between the ages of 14 and 26. This is a very dynamic, fun and exciting experience for young people! The YRTE is an opportunity for youth from all sectors of society to learn more about the priority issues and the current initiatives at Environment Canada. The YRTE also provides an exchange opportunity for youth from across the country to come together and share their ideas and experiences from their respective regions. During a one-year term, which begins in September, the group meets up to three times a year to provide recommendations to Environment Canada on environmental issues that are of concern to them and their MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The highlights include: I. a national program to operate while borders are closed II. federal and provincial participation on a 60:40 basis ($276 million and $184 million, respectively) iil. producers to receive payment for cattle owned as of May 20, 2003 that have been sold for slaughter IV. other ruminants also eligible (details to be announced) V. compensation paid when price falls below U.S. reference price on sliding scale (support decreases as price declines — incentive to get best price) VI. processors compensated to move inventory produced after May 20 VII. measures in place until borders open or until the 900,000 cattle on feed on May 20 are slaughtered VIII. cull cow, veal and other ruminant program runs until August 31 or until funds are depleted.
