The young couple juggles work and professional life (they have a young daughter, Kayla) with the help of a dedicated work force of six full-time staff (divided about half and half between the indoor and outdoor operations) and five part-timers. In the summer they may have up to 20 pickers working at any time, moving from one crop to the next. "We have a good, reliable staff," Marlene says. "It takes everybody to make this go round." The retail/restaurant part of the business is open from Easter to Christmas. Summer is the best season with weekends busiest time in the spring and fall. The restaurant offers everything from light breakfasts to soup and sandwich lunches. Once a month they hold a dinner and they have a high demand for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They also rent out the room for special functions and they do catering. "We try to use our own products," Marlene says. People can come for ice cream sundaes, for instance and the ice cream is purchased but it will be served with their own toppings.
