The Rural Voice, 2003-07, Page 23With some of their trees and
shrubs not producing yet, Marlene
has had to travel considerable
distances to get the variety of
products she likes, going as far as
Collingwood or Simcoe to get
Saskatoon berries, for instance. Most
of the other products come from
within a one-hour radius of the farm.
The processing end of the
business has seen changes
since they started. Marlene
says she's continually looking for
new recipes and she has come up
with some new products in the last
year. You need to meet customer
demand, she says, and expects things
will keep changing in the coming
years to satisfy demand.
"We're very customer oriented,"
she says. "You need loyal customers
and you have to try to please them."

Huron coast, about half of their
business remains local from
Goderich in the north, to Clinton
inland and Grand Bend in the south.
They also draw heavily from five or

They're expanding their efforts,
through the county tourism

tourists off Highway 21 to discover
what's down the back road, a mile
east of the highway (they're located
right across from another area
favourite, Te -em Farm.)
Jf Marlene has been learning as
she goes in the processing and
retailing end of the business,
Mike is also undergoing a learning
experience with so many varieties of
fruit trees and bushes to grow.
"Each crop is different and needs
different care at different times,"
Marlene explains. It's challenging
trying to get everything done at the
right time.
