Second Annual Grey Bruce Clean Water Festival
For four days last September close
to 100 volunteers assembled each
morning in Chesley to help to run the
water festival. There were 46 exhibits
to teach busloads of Grade 4 students
about water.
My area was a set-up of the water
cycle, which in its simplest form is -
transpiration, evaporation,
condensation, precipitation and
percolation - pretty big words for the
dozens of students passing by. At the
end of the session, they had to attach
these words with velcro onto the
correct position on a large display
board.
But then I thought maybe there are
two lessons here - since these kids will
have to become familiar with
doublespeak, bafflegab and
bureaucratese (think Bill 81) to survive.
My solution - a snappy windup - a
grand finale encompassing both lessons
was required. Without any consultation,
I had an inspiration, a revelation or
maybe a hallucination to make a
compilation of as much polysyllabic
vocabulary and terminology as
possible.
But, it was with some trepidation
and dedication, that I made a
formulation of my dissertation and
explanation of "The Water Cycle
Rotation" station location. To some of
you, this might sound like the
Emancipation Proclamation Declara-
tion but it is just my Summation. My
oration and elucidation on the
"Interpretation of the Water Cycle"
Demonstration is a 30 -second
presentation:
"By observation, microscopic drops
of water through the process of
vaporization, vegetation
transpiration, and evaporation move
by a means of transportation, or
ascension, to a higher elevation and
undergo a transformation known as
condensation.
"This becomes rain or snow, which
we call precipitation, that moves
through the soil by percolation and
infiltration. By way of practical
application, you should acknow-
ledge that too much precipitation
and too little percolation could cause
over -saturation which leads to
destruction, devastation, desecra-
tion, desolation, devaluation,
conflagration and general
consternation as well as quite a bit
of erosion.
"If it is any consolation, with
jubilation, I announce the
Grown in Grey coming April 15-16
Grown in Grey is an agriculture -
based educational event that is held
away from the classroom. The usual
venue is an arena which allows the
accommodation of a large number of
children and different learning
"stations".
The objective of Grown in Grey is
to further educate the children in grades
four and five about what is happening
in agriculture and related industries in
our region. Grown in Grey is run by a
group of core volunteers and is a not-
for-profit organization. This event is
made possible by the co-operation of a
large number of organizations,
commodity groups, farmers, educators
and individuals interested in the many
facets of agriculture.
In 2003, Grown in Grey will be held
at the Chatsworth Community Center
on April 15 and 16.

discontinuation, termination and
completion of my communication on
this experimentation - unless you
require some clarification. Otherwise,
congratulations on your absorption and
assimilation.
"However, I should tell you, it is my
estimation and expectation that, with
justification, tomorrow there will be an
examination and interrogation on all
this information.
"Thank you for your attention,
consideration, participation and co-
operation. I certainly hope all this
education doesn't cause intimidation,
frustration, indignation, indigestion, or
constipation."0
