The purpose of this meeting is to familiarize producers with the regulations and requirements under Bill 81; Nutrient Management Act. Although there is a phase-in period for producers to complete their individual Nutrient Management Strategies and Plans, many of the regulations will come into law this April and will affect every farmer in Ontario. Then they must be provided with a graduated degree of exposure and appropriate supervision as they get older and are able to take on more responsible farm tasks.0 Questions that could save a child's life The Agricultural Safety Audit Program offers several checks that involve safety with children. • Is there an assigned play area for children? • Do you enforce the "no extra riders" rule on machienry at all times? • Before operating self-propelled equipment are you positively certain of the location of bystanders and other objects? • Are keys removed from motorized equipment or lock -outs used to prevent starting by children? • Are children kept away from operating power equipment? • In farm buildings, are floor openings protected with barriers, lids or safety barriers? • Have danger spots in floors been repaired or corrected? • Is there protection from uncovered water tanks, wells, cisterns, ponds, etc. and are DANGER signs clearly posted? • Are children forbidden to excite, tease or abuse animals? • Is your pesticide storage area kept locked and a chemical warning sign posted?0
