Home Decorating
Clutter can sap your energy
By Patti Robertson
Are you feeling swamped?
Perhaps drained, lethargic, or
downright depressed? It is not
necessarily the weather. There is the
possibility that it can be an energy
blockage.within your home. Your
home's atmosphere, its energy, can
be adversely affected by excess
debris and clutter. Clutter of course
consists of unfinished projects, letters
waiting to be written, articles waiting
to be read, forms to be filled out,

clothes to be mended, etc., etc., etc.
This is a "down time" in most of
our lives as we are more often
indoors than out and as a result it is a
perfect time to start our home
cleansing. This is not simply dusting
down cobwebs and dust and doing a
light vacuuming, but goes much
deeper and gets to the root of our
home's vital energy anatomy source.
Before beginning, we need to make a
pact with ourselves as to what is
important and what is not. We need
to be a little brutal with ourselves,
especially, if we tend to be "pack -
rats" or procrastinators! Here's what
works for me.
About all my possessions I ask: "is
it beautiful? Is it of sentimental
value? It is useful?"
If the answer is yes I keep it and
work with it to make it part of my
decor.
As far as mail goes I try to deal
with it as it comes in the door, filing
it into three categories: one, to be
dealt with immediately; two, to be
taken care of by month's end; three,
filed immediately in the garbage or
recycle bin. These methods keep me
sane and very much on top of what's
what within our home.
There are so many charities
looking for donations of good used
clothing and household items that I
find it easy to part with such items
allowing them a second chance to be
appreciated and at the same time
assist in generating revenue for a
charitable group.
I also love helping out young
people who are just setting up their
first household, so 1 fipd my unused
window treatments, bedspreads, wall
art, ornaments, dishes, etc: can often
find a good home once I'm done with
them. It's a real thrill to see a hand-
me-down doing a valuabt service fo!
someone else.
Giving your home a thorough
cleansing means delving into the very
back of one's clothes closets, digging
to the bottom of the trunks, venturing
to the very top shelves of our
cupboards and then being very
discriminating with what is worth
keeping and what needs to move out
of our space.
I find giving my home at least one
annual cleansing has made me a
much more savvy and thrifty
consumer. (I'm no' longer buying
trinkets to fill a short-lived desire that
will only be given away next season.)
I find once all is neat, tidy and
clutter -free that my spaces can be
more easily maintained and by not
taking on projects and crafts that I
just never get around to, I'm more at
peace and rested! Once all the clutter
which adds "psychic debris" to the
energy of one's home has been
dispelled there is literally an
enlightening glow and vitality which
radiates from our homes' interiors
and of course if all's okay on the
homefront all tends to be okay
mentally and physically with
ourselves - no costly medications
necessary. Try your own house
cleansing. I'm sure you'll be amazed.
Next month we'll look at the
lighting within our homes and its
effect on our energy levels.0
