Building for today and the future The fifth annual FarmSmart Agricultural Conference will take place on Saturday. January 11. 2003. FarmSmart is organized by the Golden Horseshoe and Heartland Regional Soil and Crop Improvement Associations in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. OAC and Agribusiness. This year it is moving from its traditional location in Ancaster and will be held at the Ontario Agricultural College. Profile Bob Martin Bob Martin PCFA Vice - President and his wife Susan purchased the family farm in North Perth near Listowel in 1973 and operate the 250 -acre dairy farm, milking 50 cows freestall. They have four children: Tanya, Tim, Tyler and Taralyn. Bob started out as an apprentice mechanic for six years and two years on electrical installation. In 1993 their farm became a century farm "Marmeadow Farms Ltd." Bob has been, and remains, very involved in the community. He has served as chairman of the Perth County Milk Committee and the Listowel Agricultural Society. He also coached minor hockey. He sits on the Gay Lea Board of Directors. He is a member of the Atwood United Church and Chairman of the Official Board. As Vice -President of Perth County Federation of Agriculture, Bob would like to be able to make all members more aware of the issues that will impact them not only today but in the future.0 42 THE RURAL VOICE University of Guelph from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants are able to set their own agenda for the day as they pick and choose from 35 timely topics. The special luncheon speaker is Dr. David Biesenthal from Walkerton. The information sessions cover a wide range of topics that are sure to be of interest to all farmers and anyone who works in the Agri -Food Industry. Several of the sessions have had CCA CEU's applied for. The registration fee, including a hot meal at lunch, is only $35. To partially offset this cost many participating farm suppliers will be offering coupons worth a total of $15 in discounts to those who attend FarmSmart.
