The Rural Voice, 2002-09, Page 31Needles, columnist and playwright of the "Wingfield Farm" stage comedies. Dan will share the latest news from Persephone Township and Petunia Valley, and entertain the crowd by reading excerpts from his new book to be released this fall, called With Axe and Flask: The Settling of Persephone. Chef Ted Reader, host of King of the Q, will be grilling up some delicious recipes using Maple Lodge Farms chicken. Ted also hosts Cottage Country Television and is "The King" when it comes to barbecue recipes. He is also the author of many cookbooks, including Sticky Fingers and Tenderloins, Cottage Cooking Cookbook and Sticks and Stones. Ted will demonstrate how to barbecue some of his tasty chicken recipes twice daily during the Show. Visitors will also have a chance to learn about value-added opportunities for processing farm wastes such as manure. Bob Stasko, director of business development for Kinectrics Inc., an energy technology company formerly known as Ontario Hydro Technology, will discuss how rural co-ops can be formed to develop new sources of energy and create pathogen -free fertilizer at the same time. He will also help explain today's open electricity market and where prices could be headed. "At the same time producers are feeling more legislative push towards manure management, the electricity market is changing and shortages are possible in the future if no new sources of energy are found," says Stasko. "I hope to offer Show visitors a few ideas on how they could create their own heat or hydro at a predictable cost, whether it's for energy independence or as a solution for utilizing farm waste." In its first eight years Canada's Outdoor Farm Show has continued to grow. Last year, despite the fact the opening of the show coincided with the September 11 terrorist attacks, the show drew a new record of 36,500 people. Already planners are thinking big for the 10th anniversary in 2003.
