the cutting system that never

as long as the competition...the
SCH EasyCut cutter bar. Alternating up and down installation of
knife sections (with 2 cutting edges on the guards instead of
one) result in easier cutting, less breakage and superior
performance. Guards and knife sections are completely heat-
treated, not just the edges, for extra,,
strength and durability.

16 THE RURAL VOICE
competition will be on display at the
Show (in penning labelled with farm
name), and will then be graded for
marbling and yield by a national
grader post -slaughter. Cash prizes of
$2000, $1000 and $500 will be
awarded for the three top -scoring
animals.
"This competition is important
because the final product, the beef
itself, is going to be judged, and not
solely the physical appearance of the
animal," says Jordon Underhill,
livestock marketing co-ordinator for
the show. "It will also give feedback
to producers on how their product is
grading and how it compares to
others."
One animal per producer or
farm can be entered in the
competition, with the cost to
enter set at $100. The number of
animals in the competition will be
capped at 20. The preferred weight
requirement is a hot carcass weight
of 650 to 850 pounds per animal.
Representatives from the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food and
Norwich Packers. as well as cattle
feeding specialist Dave Murray, will
be on-site to help explain the judging
process and to show how the grading
card is used.
Show attendees will have a chance
to take a guess on the grading of the
cattle based on their physical
appearance. Sponsor prizes will be
awarded to the attendee whose score
of the winning carcass is closest to
the actual post -slaughter grading
score. The post -slaughter grading
results can be viewed after the show
at www.outdoorfarmshow.com and
in Ontario Beef Farmer.
"This is a competition that both
pure-bred and commercial producers
can participate in. It's not a breed
comparison," adds Underhill.
Also part of the Show's expanded
Beef Expo is the Beef Breeds
Pavilion. Eleven different breeds will
be on display — twice the number
from last year's show including:
Blonde d'Aquitaine, Simmental,
Charolais, Hereford, Murray Grey,
Angus, Saler, Limousin, Texas
Longhorn, Gelbvieh and Jans
Lowline. Land O'Lakes, the
pavilion's sponsor, will be launching
a new supplemental creep feed and
the latest in creep feeders will also be
included in this display. Commercial
